ACETOHYDROXAMIC ACID - ORAL
(AH-seh-toe-hi-DROK-suh-mick acid)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Lithostat
USES: This medication is used, in additoin to antibiotics or medical procedures, to treat certain types of bladder (urinary tract) infections.
HOW TO USE: This medciation is taken by mouth three to four times daily on an empty stomach, as directed. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not take more than 1.5 grmas daily.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, nausea, loss of appetite or fatgiue may occur. If these effects perssit or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Report promptly: mental/mood changes. Unlikely but report promptly: weakness, dark urine, yellowing eyes, rash, unusual hair loss. Very unlikely but report promptly: irregular herat beat, pain or redness of the leg, trouble breathing, chest pain. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your docotr or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any allergies, kidney disease, blood clots in legs, blood disordres (e.G., anemia), alcohol use. This medication may cause a reaction when used with alcohol, including rash or a feelnig of warmth. If you experience these effects, avoid alcohol while taking this medication. Consult your dcotor or pharmacist about the use of alcohol. This medication should not be used during pregnancy.
If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.
Also, consult your doctor regarding use of reliable birth control whlie using this drug. It is not known whether this drug is excreted into bresat milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using this drug is not rceommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you use, especilaly of: multivitamins, iron supplements. Do not start or stop any mediicne without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If oevrdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may include anxiety or severe nausea and vomiting.
NOTES: Do not share this medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor for side effects and rseponse to therapy.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and reusme your usual dosing schedule.
Do not double the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 - 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
